Basis for the additive future of companies
The training of designers, engineers and decision-makers in industry continues to play a key role in the further market penetration of additive manufacturing. A rethink must take place in component design in particular in order to tap into the potential of additive production in the form of radical lightweight construction or component integration for the respective product range.
The Fraunhofer IAPT has been successfully offering training courses in the field of additive manufacturing under the “Additive Academy” label since 2014 and has already trained over 1,500 engineers for customers from the aviation, automotive, mechanical engineering and service sectors. Thanks to the positive experience gained in the training courses, customers can shape their additive future in other Fraunhofer IAPT services, from bionic design to series production.
The Additive Academy imparts application-oriented knowledge on topics relating to the industrial use of additive manufacturing. In addition to theoretical training, the training program also includes hands-on training directly on the machines and is accompanied by a total of 40 experts from one of the leading institutes for additive manufacturing.
The seminars cover all areas of the company: design, production and management. The requirement levels of the training courses are also adapted to the prior knowledge of the participants. The training courses are divided into starter, advanced and expert training courses so that the right training course can be selected depending on the level of knowledge. Tailor-made, customer-specific training courses are also possible.
With 6 different additive production technologies and 13 machines at our on-site institute in Hamburg, we cover a broad spectrum. However, on-site training is also possible if additive software and hardware can be used.
Of course, the Additive Academy's offering is constantly being developed and adapted to developments and trends in the industry. For example, a two-week certificate course on “Metal Additive Manufacturing Design Professional” will be offered from 2020. An e-learning course on “Process selection in additive manufacturing” will be available from November 2019.
The Additive Academy is currently developing into the “Additive Consulting” business unit. This is intended to advise customers on the introduction of additive production at management level. Additive Consulting is also working with the specialist departments at Fraunhofer IAPT to develop technology studies, some of which will be published.
