Polymer Recycling and Resource-Efficient Production

On the Path to a Circular Economy

Bringing sustainability and profitability in sync - that's what the joint project AKROPOLYS of the association IAMHH e.V. is about.

In collaboration with project partners from the metropolitan region of Hamburg we converted PA12 powder from SLS printing into processable granules and filaments. The Fraunhofer IAPT's work within the consortium includes, among other things, testing the extrusion behavior of filaments produced from recycled SLS powders, examining the properties of parts produced by FFF.

We are also adapting the laser-based in-situ smoothing process LuMEx to the new material, aiming to reduce post-processing efforts for parts printed with recycled SLS powders. The researchers have so far identified suitable wavelengths for laser processing of white material based on spectroscopy experiment series, and have studied the melting behavior and surface properties in smoothing experiments of recycled PA12 filament.
