With applied research toward technology leadership
Philippa Sigl-Glöckner recently remarked that Germany’s research ecosystem is comparable to that of much larger countries (Deutschlandfunk), citing examples such as Fraunhofer Institutes and leading universities.
There are ample opportunities for Germany to regain and expand its technological leadership across various sectors. Given these opportunities, the key question, as Philippa Sigl-Glöckner puts it, is: “How can we turn this research back into an innovative industry … and also ensure that from this great research, these great ideas, new companies can emerge?”
This very question motivates us as well.
Whether it’s our Fraunhofer IAMHH® high-performance center with its commitment to startups, our new building with three AM production lines for local industry at the Innovations Park Bergedorf, or our research that always aims at the economic and societal benefit of additive innovations — we see ourselves at the interface between research and industrial application. There, our research makes industry innovative and competitive, while also providing the foundation for new companies.
Let us aim to regain and expand technological leadership together.
